Liz Fever is a twenty-two year old artist living in
Philadelphia and finishing up her final year at Tyler School of Art. Her
photography career began towards the end of her middle school years when she
discovered her love of art. This revelation led her to apply to the
Pennsylvania Governor's School of the Arts in high school where she spent five
weeks working solely on creating artwork and collaborating with artists in
different areas of study. Upon her acceptance to Tyler, there was never a
question in her mind that photography was the field that she wanted to pursue.
There are
many characteristics of photography that make it such a unique medium. For Liz,
it's about the relationship between the photographer and time. She views the
camera as a quick and intuitive instrument that allows her to preserve a moment
exactly as it occurs. This interaction is evident in much of her work from her
time studying abroad in Rome, where she spent her trip creating a portfolio of
images intended to express the uniqueness of the culture and experience. Since
returning to the United States, Liz has been focusing mainly on technical
assignments and experimenting with more abstract images for her senior thesis
exhibition. Light and space are key elements, abstracting areas and colors and
leaving the viewer with a distorted sense of scale and self.
For the future, Liz hopes to be able to continue to make artwork for herself, but is also hoping to pursue an editorial or curatorial position. She hopes to travel more, believing that for now, she's seen enough of Philadelphia, and that the twenties are the time to take advantage of the new kind of freedom that comes after finishing school. Photography is her passion, but it won't limit her. She's ready to take advantage of any opportunities that come her way.
